SPEEDWAY, IN (Saturday, September 21, 2024) – A fourth-place finish at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway gives Team TGM’s Matt Plumb an increased cushion in the championship points battle with only one race remaining.
Plumb and teammate Paul Holton finished fourth today – increasing their points lead to 110.
Qualifying second in the #DrivingResearch No. 46 car, Holton had a strong opening stint. With multiple cautions, the field was jumbled through different pit-stop strategies.
Handing over the car to championship-leading Matt Plumb at the midway point, which fortunately was a caution period. The fourth-place finish gave Plumb another boost in points running second in the championship, over the team which finished ninth today.
Ultimately, the driver and team championship crown will come down to the finish at Road Atlanta on Friday, October 11. At this point, Plumb has a 110 point lead which will mean that a solid finish at Road Atlanta will earn him the championship. He will need to finish sixth if the team’s championship rival wins the race.
The race series championship is the focus of the team; however, it’s also Paul Holton’s birthday at Road Atlanta!! It would be a fabulous present to hand Matt and the team the championship.

In the sister car, No. 64, Ted Giovanis had an incident early and ultimately had additional issues, which caused them to retire from the race.
“Although the race ended early for us, we secured the Bronze Cup championship, and our finish was not instrumental in that championship.
“We are all focused on the No. 46 car and the overall championship, and we are thrilled with the results today.
“Winning on track is great, and it’s what we strive for every race; however, the work being done for cancer research is so much more important. We are thrilled to be able to highlight that lifesaving work throughout #DrivingResearch campaign.”
Team TGM this week highlighted the lifesaving work of researcher Dr. Andrew Ewald at Johns Hopkins Kimmell Cancer Center.
Next up, Road Atlanta, Round 10, Friday, October 11.

Ted Giovanis - “A good day for TGM. The 46 car performed well, increasing their championship lead despite missing third place. The 64 car had some issues, but we’ll be ready for Road Atlanta.”
Hugh Plumb - “An up-and-down day. We clinched the Bronze championship and lead GS overall. The 64 car retired with issues, but Ted drove well. The 46 car finished fourth, holding the points lead. TGM did a great job at Indy.”
Matt Plumb - “P4 at Indy with one round to go. We extended our points lead on the No. 28 Porsche. Despite not taking tires late, we had strong strategy and great pit stops. Looking ahead to Road Atlanta.”
Paul Holton - “A strong qualifier, starting second. Matt and I had a great race, with fast pit stops and solid driving. Finishing fourth, we gained valuable points ahead of the final round at Road Atlanta.”
