BRASELTON, GA (Wednesday, July 10, 2024) – IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge championship leaders Team TGM have their sights on continuing their remarkable run of consistency to further boost their points lead this weekend at Toronto’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

After standing on the podium for two of the four 2024 races (Daytona, Mid Ohio) Matt Plumb and co-driver Paul Holton took the overall win two weeks ago at Watkins Glen International.

Never finishing the No. 46 Aston Martin Vantage in lower than 6th position in 2024, Matt Plumb brings a 240 point championship lead into this week’s only Canadian race, a two-hours sprint at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Team owner/driver Ted Giovanis pointed out another fun fact, “After the win at Watkins Glen, we took a look at the points and although we knew Matt was commanding a sizable lead, what we didn’t realize was that Paul Holton had moved within just 60 points of second in the driver championship.

“Our goal is to win the three championships (Driver, Team and Bronze Cup) but now we have a secondary goal of getting Paul into the second place spot. Hugh and I are doing great in the Bronze Cup points but we know all this could slip away with just one difficult weekend, so nobody puts more pressure on Team TGM than ourselves!"

“We’re taking it one race, one on-track session at a time. We’ve made it past the halfway point of the season and are focused on the remaining five races starting this weekend.  It’s always a pleasure to race in front of the Canadian fans. CTMP hosts huge and enthusiastic crowds, which we really appreciate.”

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, originally known as Mosport Park, opened in 1961 and quickly became a cornerstone of Canadian motorsport. Located in Bowmanville, Ontario, the circuit has hosted a wide range of racing events over the decades, including Formula 1, IndyCar, and various sports car championships, earning a reputation for its challenging layout and picturesque surroundings.

Renamed Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2012, the fast-flowing circuit features the fastest average speed lap time of any track on the IMSA calendar.

Ted Giovanis - “As a team we’ve had our ups and downs at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. However last year we did well, finishing both cars in the top 15 while still learning the Aston Martin Vantage race cars. This year we have an advantage with this being our second season in the cars and the momentum the team is carrying from Watkins Glen.“We’re leading three championships by a comfortable margin (Driver, Team and Bronze Cup) but we have to keep on pushing.“The Bronze Cup competition was the strongest at Watkins and we were able to finish second so I know we have the combination to run with the top competitors and we are looking for an overall podium in Canada.”

Hugh Plumb - “With half the season remaining and doing so many things really well I remain optimistic. I’m so proud of these TGM guys right now. We need to continue to look at this championship as a session by session effort, trusting in what we have done and feeling confident and fluid about our actions.“Our goal this year is a lofty one but TGM has proved to me they are up for the task. I’m proud to be a part of this organization of Ted and Kristina’s (Giovanis) and know there are bigger things to come. Did I mention Mosport is for sure my favorite circuit on the calendar?!”

Matt Plumb - “Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is one of the iconic North American tracks that everyone loves as a driver, but you are always on the cutting edge. If you make a mistake it can really hurt you there.“It’s high speed, not very forgiving and really fun to drive. We have a good lead in the points after the Watkins Glen win but we can’t rest on our laurels. CTMP kicks off the second half of the season for us. Five down and five to go, we have to keep the pressure on the rest of the field and the wins coming.”

Paul Holton - “I’m ready to get back to CTMP for the first time since 2019! The track is fast, requiring serious commitment and trust in the car. It’s one of the more enjoyable circuits to drive, but harder to race on, so qualifying will be key to putting Matt in a strong position at the end of the race.“I have no doubt that the Team TGM crew will give us a competitive car and we will be there at the end of the day. It’s all about the long term championship view.”
