BRASELTON, GA (Wednesday, June 19, 2024) – Team TGM will again bring the team’s championship lead to Watkins Glen International with a view to repeating their podium performance from 2023 at this week’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge 2-hour sprint race.

Matt Plumb and Team TGM are leading the overall driver and team points championships by 130 points heading in Watkins Glen. Finishing second after a fierce fuel-save battle at the last round at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Plumb and TGM were able to increase their championship advantage.

Team owner/driver Ted Giovanis and co-driver Hugh Plumb have an ever bigger commanding lead in the Bronze Cup Championship, sitting 340 points ahead of second.

Ted Giovanis summed up the season so far, “We’ve been very consistent with both the No.46 and No. 64 cars and leading in every category."

“With six two-hour races remaining on the schedule, we are focused on improving our short-run strategy."

“We can’t get behind because there won’t be any time to make up the deficit in these shorter races. We have the best strategists in the paddock with Joe Varde and John Terry, and the crew is melding very well on pit stops, getting them done in the shortest time possible."

“Our Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars are great to drive, and with a year and a half running these cars, we have them well suited to us. We’ve learned the ins and outs of the cars and how to get peak performance from them."

“Our challenge at Watkins Glen will be the BOP (Balance of Performance) that IMSA has passed down to the Aston Martin teams. We’ve lost some fuel capacity and other changes which will hurt us a bit; however, I’m confident we can come away from The Glen with another strong finish.”

Watkins Glen International is set in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York and is one of the most picturesque areas on the schedule. The 2.45-mile circuit is known for its challenging layout, and the Village of Watkins Glen is also home to the International Motor Racing Research Center.

Racecar driver Hugh Plumb of Team TGM

Ted Giovanis - “Hugh and I are sitting in a very strong position for taking the 2024 Bronze Cup Championship, but we can’t rest on our laurels. There are a lot of points up for grabs at each event, and we have to keep up the consistent finishes we’ve been posting all season. Joe Varde, who calls the strategy for the team, keeps reminding us that we have six races to go and we have to keep the pressure on in all categories – the overall driver and team championships and Bronze Cup. Now that we are facing a series of sprint races to finish the season, we will need to start strong and take advantage of every opportunity to grab podium finishes.”

Hugh Plumb - “I love going to Watkins Glen, New York, both the Lake Seneca area and the race track. It’s one of my favorites of the season. We’re needing to keep our consistency strong and focus determined as we get into the meat of our season, this being the half way point. We’re back to a sprint race format so we will need to be spot on with everything this weekend. TGM personnel are really on their game right now, so we’re looking forward to a good weekend.”

Matt Plumb - “The only way to lead a championship this competitive is through consistency. That is just what the team has provided all year, and the results show. We thought we had a win at Mid-Ohio, which was tough, but it goes to show you the level of talent throughout these teams. We move on to one of the greatest, Watkins Glen. Paul has been doing a job running up front and giving me a clean car, and the team is motivated and really operating at its best. Hopefully it will be our day on the top step.”

Paul Holton - “I’m excited to get back to Watkins Glen with Team TGM. We had a pretty good weekend at Mid Ohio and I think we’re all looking to keep that rolling as we get in the midway point in the season through this summer. Watkins is the third track in a row we are going to that has undergone some sort of changes with some new curbing in the bus-stop. It’s another great challenge for the Team TGM crew to overcome this weekend!”
