Fresh from clinching the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Bronze championship, Ted Giovanis and Team TGM are set to highlight vital medical research projects via a new campaign known as “#DrivingResearch”.

The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge is a major sportscar championship sanctioned by IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) that features some of the world’s biggest automotive brands. Team TGM’s Aston Martin squad competes against rivals from BMW, Ford, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Toyota.

The ten-race championship is broadcast live via the NBC Peacock streaming platform.

Since launching the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation for Health and Policy in 2012, Giovanis has funded many projects, including specialized treatment matched to breast cancer patients; a free, web-based program that helped researchers more quickly identify drugs that could slow or stop COVID harm in patients; and ways to use the body’s natural immune system to fight cancer. To date, millions have been contributed to these vital research projects.

The JKTG Foundation was launched to honor Giovanis’ late wife, Jayne Koskinas, who died from breast cancer in 2010.

Championship-winning race driver, author, and medical research philanthropist Giovanis has launched #DrivingResearch to raise awareness about the key medical research projects and programs that he and his JKTG Foundation have helped fund.

Giovanis and his co-driver Hugh Plumb clinched the Bronze IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Championship recently at Road America in Wisconsin, where they picked up their fourth victory of the season aboard the No.64 entry.

The team’s No.46 entry also leads the overall team championship battle in 2024, with Matt Plumb (brother of Hugh) leading the driver championship points. Plumb’s new co-driver Paul Holton is in fourth place in the driver championship standings despite missing the opening race of the season.

“We have established #DrivingResearch to use our race program and the fan support – both at the track and on television – to highlight the important work that our research teams are conducting,” Giovanis said.

“This is not about raising money – it’s showcasing the importance of driving research to think differently. In cancer research you may not see the benefits of hard work for many years – sometimes, the work may prove that your theory was wrong. There is no checkered flag. There is no end.

“But with each step, each day in the lab, with every talented researcher that has the funding and the equipment to keep tackling these tough questions – we are one “lap” closer to creating better treatments that will help save lives.”

The Team TGM Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars will hit the track for the first time today, featuring the #DrivingResearch branding at 10:25 a.m. for the opening practice session at VIRginia International Raceway.

Saturday’s two-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race begins at 2:15 p.m. and will be broadcast across the US on the NBC Peacock streaming platform and internationally on www.imsa.com/tvlive/ on YouTube.
