WATKINS GLEN, NY (Friday, June 23, 2023) – Team TGM’s No. 46 Aston Martin Vantage will start on the front row for tomorrow’s The Sahlen’s 120 at the Glen – putting good timing and good fortune to good use to score the team’s best qualifying result of the year.

With threatening skies and weather reports of impending rain, today’s qualifying session slated for 15 minutes was greatly abbreviated by an early incident.

When another competitor had contact with a wall on his third lap, the session was red-flagged and unable to resume under the time perimeters.

The team had sent Hugh Plumb early in the session, and he was able to record his lap before the red flag came out. He will start the 2-hour race in second place before handing driving duties to his brother, Matt Plumb.

Team TGM owner and driver Ted Giovanis also turned in one of his best qualifying times and will line up 16th in a packed Michelin Pilot Challenge GS field – later turning over the No. 64 Aston Martin to co-driver Owen Trinkler.

Pre-race and fan activities for tomorrow’s race will begin at 2:45 pm with the green flag dropping at 3:45 pm. The race will stream live on Peacock.

“The car really hooked up well. We went out on scrubbed tires and for our car the tire temps came up fairly quickly which benefitted us because it turns out we only got a couple green flag laps. I was able to start the session strong however I felt we had a lot of time to gain had it been a full qualifying session. Watkins Glen is really suited to my driving style and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”

Hugh Plumb

“The team has done a great job in testing and preparing for this race. We were all feeling optimistic after the practice sessions. However, everyone in the paddock was watching the weather closely and I knew there was a good chance the rain would come anytime. Even though the tires hadn’t come up to temperature I had to go out and try to put in the best lap I could. It was quite a thrill ride but it worked and the time held for us to start up front.”

FOCUS FORWARD: Life lessons from racing

Life comes at you fast when you’re traveling 180 miles per hour. For Ted Giovanis, it’s also where you can learn the most valuable lessons. Since becoming a race car driver three decades ago at age forty-six—a ride that is still in overdrive—Giovanis has discovered how the tools of racing and the teamwork within it are applicable to life and business. In forty-eight motivating and, at times, exhilarating chapters, he shares his experience and knowledge.
