DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Wednesday, January 25, 2023) – It might be the most famous beach in the U.S., but Daytona is equally renowned for being the World Center of Racing. The famous circuit will host the Rolex 24 at Daytona this week, and Team TGM is chasing a podium hat-trick in it’s 28 hours of racing this week.

With two Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars in the four-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge race on Friday and an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the GTD Pro category in the Rolex 24 at Daytona on Saturday and Sunday, the four Team TGM drivers and crew will be tested to the extreme this week.

Team TGM has partnered with the championship-winning TF Sport squad, a team familiar with 24-hour races and one of the most knowledgeable teams running the Aston Martin marque.

TGM will run the No.64 with team owner/driver Ted Giovanis and Owen Trinkler and No.46 with Hugh and Matt Plumb in the Michelin Pilot Challenge. All four drivers will join forces for the twice-around-the-clock classic Rolex 24 event – taking the green flag on Saturday at 1:40 pm.

Ted Giovanis

“I think the Roar weekend went really well with the Aston Martins both the GT3 and GT4. We all got the right amount of time in the car. The GT4s are coming together, and I think we will be in a good place for the race when we hit the track today.
“In the GT3 I think Owen did a great job in qualifying, he was right in the middle of the pack for GTD Pro, and would have been a little bit further up if he had a little bit of help, he lost the draft a bit. The Mercedes had more help with the draft with all four of them together, which gave them an advantage. Other than that I think we did really well, learned a lot about the cars and we are ready to go for this week.”

Owen Trinkler

“The Roar was a good weekend overall. The Michelin Pilot Challenge cars were rock solid. We ran strong and feel we have a good chance in the race on Friday. It’s a new car, and the crew has really stepped up to learn the nuances of the car and bring us the best chance possible for success.
“On the WeatherTech side, TF Sport is amazing. They have so much experience and knowledge about the Aston Martin and have combined with our Team TGM team members to forge an exceptional crew for the Rolex 24.
“A fifth-place starting position is good. We’ve learned that a lot can happen in 24 hours, and we just want to do our best to be on the podium on Sunday!”

Hugh Plumb

“I think the TGM guys did an exceptional job putting two GT4 cars together in the amount of time that we did, from the time we took delivery, did a test, figured out what the car needed, got here and ran exactly where we needed to run to be competitive. The Roar was a learning weekend.
“We will come into the race with that much more experience, know-how and we will be good to go for a four-hour race. For the Rolex 24, 100% all-new territory for Team TGM and our first being with TF Sport, having them taking us under their wing, having us do things the way they want them done.
“Second, for us to compete against the best in the world with 4-5 manufacturers in our class. I think we came out exceptionally strong, quickest in two practice sessions.”

Matt Plumb

“A successful Roar is one that you can leave feeling fairly confident that heading into the race weekend you don’t have to recreate the wheel. I think we achieved that on both sides. On both the GT3 and GT4 fronts, everyone was able to get all the laps they needed. On the GT4 car we went through as much of the set up changes, familiarizing the drivers, the crew with this new car as we could probably fit in with the exception of one session which rained.
“I think we have a good plan going into the race for the GT4 we have a few more things to change depending on how the track evolves. On the GT3 front, we really count on TF Sport and their engineering people to help with the setup. We don’t have a lot of time to learn what this car likes so we really depend on them to provide the balance and baseline for us. I think they did a great job, the car ran flawlessly the whole test session and qualifying went well.”

FOCUS FORWARD: Life lessons from racing

Life comes at you fast when you’re traveling 180 miles per hour. For Ted Giovanis, it’s also where you can learn the most valuable lessons. Since becoming a race car driver three decades ago at age forty-six—a ride that is still in overdrive—Giovanis has discovered how the tools of racing and the teamwork within it are applicable to life and business. In forty-eight motivating and, at times, exhilarating chapters, he shares his experience and knowledge.
