WATKINS GLEN, NY (Saturday, June 24, 2023) – Team TGM’s No. 64, driven by team owner and driver Ted Giovanis and Owen Trinkler, put up an epic battle to finish on the podium at Watkins Glen International in today’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge round.

Although starting 16th in the race, which was delayed by a pre-race storm, the team used expert strategy in changing conditions to minimize the number of pit stops required in the race.

After Giovanis handed over to Trinkler, the No.64 entry began to make moves through the pack and was able to hold off the competition on the final laps to clinch the last podium spot.

“Just minutes before the green flag was scheduled to drop, there was a massive rain/lightning/thunderstorm that hit the upstate NY track, causing havoc in pit lane and an over one hour delay of the race start,” said Giovanis.

“It was like nothing we hadn’t seen at Watkins Glen before. All the teams scrambled to take equipment to higher ground, computers, data equipment, and radios. The pit lane was flooded.

“Every team was trying to read their crystal ball and figure out when to switch from wet to slicks and have the best impact on the finish.

“I’m so proud of the entire TGM crew. The rain was crazy, our pit stops and strategy were challenging, and the multiple caution flags were unpredictable…and we still got a podium finish!!”

Team TGM  No. 46, driven by Hugh and Matt Plumb, finished 11th after running ultra-strong in the top three for the first half of the race. Unfortunately, a late race drive-through penalty made it tough to make up ground.

Ted Giovanis

““This was a great result for the entire team. We needed this boost, and being on the podium is difficult in this series. I’m so proud of the team. It was an intense day with a constant flowing strategy, but ours played out. Tires and pit strategy time was tough because of the caution flags but everyone was in the same boat. This podium finish was a team effort and I’m so proud of them all.”

Owen Trinkler

“What a boost for TGM and Aston Martin. For once, Ted and I get to share a podium – our last top finish I was sent straight to the medical center so it’s great to stand up next to Ted on this podium. Ted did a phenomenal job in his stint and put us into contention. I had to make up some ground when I got into the car, but that had more to do with cautions. I’m so happy to be on this podium and are looking forward to heading to Canada.”

Hugh Plumb

“The team has done a great job today. You have two cars to help your odds, and today that panned out. Ted was fantastic! When you start a bit further in the pack, every car you pass is phenomenal. We had our ups and downs in the No. 46 car but brought it home in 11th. The No. 64 car being on the podium is terrific, and I cannot be happier for Ted, Kristina, and Owen. It’s all a team effort, and it’s a good feeling to celebrate together.”

Matt Plumb

“It’s a disappointing day for the No. 46 car. The car was great, and the crew did a great job. Our strategy was solid, but I had some light contact with another car which I think was a racing incident. It’s one of those things where you make a move, or someone will make a move against you. I think we were a top-five competitor today without the penalty. An 11th-place finish was not terrible. After we received our penalty, there were several caution periods, so not a lot of time to make up positions.”
