BRASELTON, GA (January 6, 2022) – Team TGM is set to return to Rolex 24 at Daytona and will do “double-duty” – setting their sights on completing unfinished business from 2021.

When Team TGM committed to their first Rolex 24 race as a team in 2021, they were well aware of the enormous undertaking. Racing in both the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and Rolex 24 hour race on the same weekend would be a true test of endurance for the team, drivers, and equipment. Unfortunately, the 24-hour race ended early on Sunday in the 18th hour with drivetrain issues.

“We put so much time and preparation into the double-duty event last January, and we felt like we were cheated out of the finish. We gave it a great deal of thought, as it is a huge investment of both time and money, but Team TGM is ready to tackle the Rolex 24 again this year,” announced team owner and driver Ted Giovanis.

Team TGM will enter a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the 2022 Rolex 24, partnering again with industry leader and Porsche experts Wright Motorsports for the twice-around-the-clock world-renowned endurance race.

The driver line-up will be led by team owner Giovanis, paired with Hugh Plumb, Owen Trinkler, and Matt Plumb.

Giovanis, who celebrated his 76th birthday on December 28, explains, “as announced in late 2021, we will be campaigning two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsports in an effort to claim the 2022 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Championship, and we will also do double-duty with the same four drivers entered in the Rolex 24.”

“We feel especially good about being able to race completely under the Porsche banner this season. The marque is one of the most respected in the sport, and John Wright and his crew are the foremost authorities in North America. We’re very excited to be working with them again,” Giovanis continued.

All three Team TGM cars will showcase the team’s #HealthInnovation hashtag – promoting the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation for Health and Policy efforts. The Foundation funds innovative, emerging medical research and supports studies that rethink health care quality and uses for real-world evidence.

Team TGM will hit the track at the World Center of Racing for the first practice session in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, Friday, January 21, 2022, at 9:45 am, as part of the Roar Before The 24 event.

Ted Giovanis

“Since last year’s race, I have been doing even more to prepare myself physically for the undertaking. With practices, qualifying, and racing over the two weekends, the toll on the drivers and team is extensive, and we are doing all we can to be ready. I couldn’t ask to be with three better driving partners. Hugh, Owen, and Matt collectively have hundreds of hours on the Daytona track, and their experience pushes me to be a better driver. It’s a great combination.”

Owen Trinkler

“We’ve been able to do some testing with the GT3 R in early December, and we all feel good in the car and look forward to the Roar and seeing what we can do there. The Rolex 24 is such an awesome event, and we’re so happy to be part of it again in 2022. It’s a huge challenge with the 4-hour Michelin Pilot race on Friday, but everyone on the team is thrilled at the opportunity to be part of the double-event weekend again.”

Hugh Plumb

“60th running of the 24 hours of Daytona, with a great team of drivers, in a Porsche, what is there not to look forward to? I think we all know the car much better now than last year. I’m very grateful to represent Porsche in both the Friday Michelin GS race and also in the 24 hours of Daytona.”

Matt Plumb

“We are all looking forward to tackling another 24hr race with the TGM crew. Last year was a great experience for all, Ted as usual was an ironman in his first-ever 24hr race; it was incredible to see that goal come to fruition. We now are better prepared and want to finish with a strong result this time around!”
