LEXINGTON, OH (Friday, May 13, 2022) – Team TGM has its sight set on tomorrow’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge after putting one of their Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsports machines into the top ten in qualifying today.

On an unseasonably warm day, the #46 car of Hugh and Matt Plumb scored the 10th fastest time in qualifying, while Ted Giovanis in the #64 Porsche was 25th.

For team owner and driver Giovanis, it was a record day, as he posted his fastest lap at the iconic track an hour north of Columbus.

I think qualifying went pretty good.  I had to feel comfortable in the car, and as always, the crew gave me a good car for qualifying,” Giovanis said.

The Michelin’s were great, and I knew after a few corners they would be ready to put in some strong laps. I was confident the car was fast, and the setup correct because Owen (Trinkler) was able to post the second-fastest time in practice #2, the quickest of the Porsches.

Eventually, there was a bit of traffic toward the end of the session with some of the faster cars going by me, and I had to work out where to best allow them to pass. According to my guys, I ran the fastest time I’ve ever run here, and I have a good amount of time on this track.”

Giovanis, Trinker, and the Plumb brothers have their eyes focused on the title battle.

We’re focused on the championship points, so starting positions in this one race is not that important,” Giovanis said.

Regardless of where we qualify, we race better than we qualify, so I think we’re really in a good position for tomorrow’s race.

We’re good racers, and if we have a clean race, we can move up and finish well. I think it will be a good run tomorrow afternoon.”

The Mid Ohio 120 is set for Saturday at 4:05 pm, with live streaming available on Peacock in the U.S. and on IMSA.com/TVLive internationally.

FOCUS FORWARD: Life lessons from racing

Life comes at you fast when you’re traveling 180 miles per hour. For Ted Giovanis, it’s also where you can learn the most valuable lessons. Since becoming a race car driver three decades ago at age forty-six—a ride that is still in overdrive—Giovanis has discovered how the tools of racing and the teamwork within it are applicable to life and business. In forty-eight motivating and, at times, exhilarating chapters, he shares his experience and knowledge.
