BRASELTON, GA (Wednesday, November 2, 2022) – Coming off an entire race season in the ultra-competitive IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series, most drivers are enjoying some rest and relaxation, but not Ted Giovanis.
The 76-year-old entrepreneur and philanthropist is jumping back into his Porsche GT3 Cup car for this week’s HSR Classic 24-Hour race at Daytona International Speedway.
Giovanis explains, “I ran this event last year and really enjoyed it. Because of the unique format, there are 45-minute sessions throughout the 24 Hours. I can drive it all alone or add a co-driver if I’d like. The current plan is for me to run all the sessions, however Hugh (Plumb) is standing by to take a session if it works into our strategy. Driving this race reminds my mind and body about the demands of racing in the middle of the night, which I haven’t done since the Rolex 24 last January,
“More than anything, it keeps me sharp and focused on racing. People will tell me to take a break, that I deserve it after a long race season, but this is what I want to be doing…racing!
“Everyone comes to a time when they can no longer race cars at this level, and I want to enjoy it while I can. I’m in great shape, which I work very hard at daily, and I’ve got a terrific crew around me. This is the time to add races, not relax.”
Giovanis will be racing the same Porsche 991.2 Cup car, which he raced to win the 2020 International GT Series Championship. For the Classic 24, he is entered in the Group F, #46.

In this gripping story, Ted Giovanis provides a front-row seat for how he ― a self-employed healthcare finance and regulatory consultant ― overcame extraordinarily long odds in his battle with the federal government, culminating in one of the largest court settlements in the history of Medicare.
