BRASELTON, GA (Wednesday, July 15, 2020) - Team TGM, 2018 Team and Drivers Champions in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Series has suspended its racing efforts for 2020 with team founder Ted Giovanis heavily involved in a vital new race – finding a vaccine for COVID-19.

Team TGM is an ardent supporter of the Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation (for Health and Policy - JKTGF) which has long been a leader in metastatic breast cancer research. The Foundation is leveraging its resources and knowledge into better understanding the COVID-19 virus.

“We began 2020 very enthusiastic about our new relationship with Chevrolet, our new Camaro GT4.R race cars and looking forward to a run for another IMSA Championship,” said Ted Giovanis, founder Team TGM.

“The pandemic changed everything, as it has throughout the motorsports industry.  Fortunately, with the JKTG Foundation we are in a unique position to extend resources to the COVID-19 efforts.

“One timely outcome of our shift in focus is a new JKTGF-funded project that examines the effectiveness of the various COVID-19 vaccines being developed.

“While racing is our passion and we intend to resume on-track activities, we are temporarily pausing our racing program.  Work will continue back at the race shop, however, this will allow complete focus on COVID-19 projects and other breast cancer related research that can contribute to fighting this virus.”

2018 was a dominant year for Team TGM in IMSA competition culminating in the Driver and Team Championships.  The championship car completed all 773 laps of the 10-race 2018 season and took three overall victories at Lime Rock Park, Virginia International Raceway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Winning the Driver’s Championship by a substantial margin were Team TGM’s Hugh Plumb and Owen Trinkler.  While team founder and driver, Ted Giovanis, proudly accepted the Team Championship for Team TGM.
