BRASELTON, GA (Wednesday, September 13, 2023) – For the penultimate round of the Michelin Pilot Challenge championship, IMSA will return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway after a nine-year hiatus to tackle the road course on the world-famous circuit.
Team TGM drivers Ted Giovanis and Owen Trinkler (No. 64) and Hugh and Matt Plumb (No. 46) will embark on the second of two four-hour enduros scheduled for this season on Saturday. The 2023 season opened at Daytona in January with the initial four-hour race for this year.
The team recently took part in the IMSA-sanctioned testing at the speedway – putting valuable miles on their Aston Martin Vantage GT4 machines in preparation for this week.
“We had the opportunity to test here last month and gain some familiarity with the track,” said team owner and driver Ted Giovanis.
“Our Aston Martin Vantage race cars took well to this circuit which none of us has raced on very recently. We all took part in the last Grand Am race here in 2013 but I probably have the most recent racing at Indy with Ferrari Challenge in 2018 and 2019.”

”I’m glad we took part in the testing here last month. The temperatures changed throughout the two days from hot and steamy to rain. We were able to put the cars through a good shake down and get some valuable data.
“I think one of the most interesting and challenging portions of the course is coming off the last turn onto the oval. The transition is tricky and challenges a driver moving from the flat road course onto the banking.
“I enjoy this track and have done well here in the IMSA Ferrari Challenge events here in 2018 and 2019 however the Aston Martin’s are very well suited to the configuration of the circuit and we should have a great run.”

“We’re happy to be returning to a four-hour enduro. Ted and I always do well in this format. It gives Ted time to get into a good rhythm in his stint, with both of us having plenty of time to pass and gain ground on pit stops.
“We just need to stay out of trouble, and the Aston Martins have been really good on the long runs, so we should have a great chance at being on the podium this weekend.”

“There are two races remaining in the championship and a four hour race at one of the most iconic race tracks in the world. I’m really looking forward to giving Team TGM a good result. There is no doubt it’s been a difficult season for us but it’s only made us better along the way. We had a really good test here a couple weeks ago and we are ready.”

“A schedule conflict prohibited me from taking part in the testing last month but the team came back with some great data on setup and information for our race strategy.
“The trick will be racing from daytime into night. That is something they did not get to practice at the test as all the running was in the heat of the day. The car changes can be fairly dramatic with the evening hours cooling down significantly.
“The team will be busy keeping up with the car and track’s evolution throughout the four hours.”
