Ted Giovanis wins International GT championship

Ted Giovanis wins International GT championship
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Sunday, December 13, 2020) - On the eve of his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Rolex 24-hour debut behind the wheel of a Porsche in early 2021, Team TGM owner Ted Giovanis has clinched the 2020 International GT - Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy Championship.

International GT is a Pro/Am championship for Porsche GT3, Cayman and Ferrari Challenge competitors racing at iconic US tracks from Sebring to Road America, VIR to Road Atlanta and hosting the season finale on Daytona International Speedway’s road course.

Giovanis went into the weekend holding second place in the championship however two sprint race wins on Saturday and victory in the Sunday’s endurance race behind the wheel of a Porsche GT3 3.8 liter gave him the points he needed to capture the title.

“I’m so ecstatic that we won the championship. It was nip and tuck going into today’s race but I think we knew we had a good shot given our other performances this week,” Giovanis said.

“Today just brought it home and it was like icing on the cake.”

Giovanis will make his Rolex 24 debut in January as team TGM enters the race for the first time. He will team up with Hugh and Matt Plumb plus Owen Trinkler aboard the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GTD class.

Team TGM’s driver will pull “double-duty” on the Rolex 24 weekend – also kicking off their Michelin GT Challenge championship assault aboard their Chevrolet Camaros.

“Team TGM’s main focus is on IMSA competition however, the International GT Series is a great way to hone my race-craft, stay sharp and its good racing,” Giovanis said.

“It also gives me more time in the Porsche, which doesn’t hurt as we prepare to race at the Rolex 24 next month. It was handy to get some laps this weekend at Daytona as preparation for my debut in the 24.”
